worth to be noted is that tehere's another bottleneck: each time apt-get
kicks in there is a noticeable delay like this bug when building the
dependency tree.

it'll probably work without any locale, and fallback to using builtin C
locale. hopefully for system work this doesn't matter, but software may
fail to do things right at some point, which should anyway be farther
away than booting and re-running locale-gen.

I'm experiencing this too, on a fresh Gutsy install.
'ps -e | grep console-kit' only shows one process while htop shows many.
htop tree mode shows them all spawned from init.
fast-user-switch applet is removed from panel as I don't use it (one-
user laptop).

I'm encountering this problem on my asus w7j too.
Basically:
- pressing keys gives acpi event (checked wich acpi_listen), which in turn
generates fake keypress events (checked with xev) and hal events (checked by
hal -m)
- pressing keys does change brightness in gnome. 'cat
/proc/acpi/video/VGA

experiencing it too on a dell xps m1210 with nvidia go7400 and gutsy.
it was working somehow fine before some update around 9/18, and
