I removed ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc a few days ago and amarok has been working fine since. So apparently my config file was not compatible with amarok's version shipped in Maverick and the way amarok handles this situation is not exactly nice. -- amarok's UI doesn't start and process uses 100%
