Hello Brad, as you can see I tried the latest (K)ubuntu release, now in
stable version. The issue is unchanged, so I did what you told me to do.
Unfortunately I could not test the latest upstream kernel available
right now. I hope this debug informations will help you anyway.

I tried now Ubuntu 9.04 to see if effectively the problem was the radeon
drivers, and it seems that, except some tearing sometimes, the
compositing works well, so I think that the problem comes from KDE4
visual effects. I change the package as well.

Sorry but the developer of the game answered to your post, I quote it

@ Awen Yes. You're right. Battery is not present phisically when booting. and
the situation is like my screenshot.
If I insert it later there are two consequences :
a - System doesn't freeze, but battery is not recognized. The situation is the
same of my screenshot and doesn't change.
b - System

Normally the system doesn't freeze, but if it will happen another time I will
notice you.
I want to specify also that if I insert the battery and remove A/C, the laptop
works without say battery's remaining time.
I hope you will solve this behaviour :)
Thank you
