Found after looking using a different view-mode that the problem lies in
the way the contacts were added after importing the csv-file: the newly
imported addresses had their email address filled in in the
'Nickname'-field; after moving the email address to the proper field

Yes, I imported the new list into my (existing) list in the personal
'folder'; the existing contacts were and still are available when needed
for sending mail.
