I do not follow. As far as I can see the solution suggested on that
thread is to turn off 3D acceleration. This has already been suggested
here. It makes the problem go away, but it is not a solution because you
cannot use any recent desktop manager at the guest.

This is really disruptive, I work with VMs on a daily basis and now I
have to close all my tasks and windows and poweroff the guests, really
anoying.
