I can confirm this issue, running Ubuntu 7.10. SATA doesn't work but
RAID does. I'm searching around for the effects of using the computer in
RAID mode instead of default SATA.

I've managed to get the error, running xchat from command line. I think
the output is not very helpful, but here it goes:
$ xchat
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
