My apologies. This was resolved in Question #174789. It should be
classified as "notabug." In ~/.config/autostart there was a file called
"Network.desktop" and in that file a line reading "Exec=nm-applet" that
should not have been there. I suspect KDE put it there because there was
NO applet in KDE
Another user commented on the question from which this bug came that he
was also experiencing the same problem. Closing and restarting
Firestarter seems to usually put the icon in the same place (over
existing icons) but occasionally puts it in a different place (also over

note of. I have another question. Did you leave GoogleEarth installed?
In other words, now that you've removed the errant libraries, does
GoogleEarth run? If you already removed it, don't install it just to
find out (since I think
Nixblicker, the only thing I can say is that for the majority of the
cases I've encountered since opening this issue, it seems that
installation of GoogleEarth is the culprit. If you have that installed,
that is likely the cause. The only solution I have found is a
reinstallation of the OS and NOT
#486154 seems to imply that it is working in Lucid (or at least should
no longer be an issue). However, I am currently running 10.10 and it is
not working there. Did something in 10.10 undo a change that was made in
10.04?

After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04, my personal contacts no
longer autucomplete in the new message compose window (under "To:") nor
do they appear when pressing the To: button. The contacts were imported
from the version distributed on 1

Binary package hint: evolution
The first time I pressed the "Report a problem" button, it crashed, so
this is attempt #2. I imported my evolution settings from my previous
version (not sure of the version, but it was the one auto-installed with
10.04). I am now running 10.10,
Seems to be fixed in Dictionary 2.30.0. The fix seems to have been
implemented simply by changing the default name when the add button is
pressed.

Gentlemen, I am not sure what you want to do with this bug. I now have
new hardware (i.e. 21st century - no tubes!) with a new network
controller, and there is no problem with this hardware. Thus, if a
solution were provided, I would have no way of verifying it. If someone
else is still having this
Just tested in 10.04. Problem is still there. It has not been fixed
upstream (yet).

from install CD). Please let me know if any of this helps. The most
glaring thing to me was the fact that the frequency is incorrect on the
card. It should be on 2.412 GHz, not 2.422. Thanks!

This might be helpful. After screwing around with the network settings
all day between the two setups, I noticed that the frequency setting is
different on the network card on the different boots. "iwconfig" shows
this on the Jaunty boot (which works):

Upgrading from Jaunty. I booted from the Lucid CD, and the WiFi sees the
network, but it won't connect to it. I am attaching a screen shot of the
connection information when it works, as well as the iwevent for when it
works and when it doesn't. Any help will be greatly apprec
