Launchpad added the xubuntu-meta package name to this bug, but I am not
sure if that is correct, i.e. it might be that this is a general
updating issue.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, i386, is installed on several POS terminals with a
touchscreen that needs a driver. For the touchscreen to work, a custom
X11 configuration in /etc/X11/xorg.conf is thus needed.
Unattended upgrades have been enabled in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic.

I got it building in the meantime. I can somehow build the lightdm
binary package, and I am seeing where
I found the problematic spot in the source and it seems straight forward
to fix. But I am having some troubles with the toolchain, and with
building the package from source...
