Sorry for the late report. I just had an email about this bug today.
Anyway, I have switched to Firefox 3 since a couple of months ago and
this problem is gone.

I have no idea which part of my last message you think is a misconduct.
It was meant to be humorous while making a strong point. If you are
referring to the word stupid, it is obvious to me that it refers to
myself. Sorry if you misunderstood that.
I see no point in filing a bug report here, so
1. Open gedit, have the file browser displayed in the side panel.
2. Edit any file. Let's say you want to delete a character but somewhat
you decided to do it later after you check for some other files you
have.

When the focus is in the file browser pointing at a file and you press
the DEL key then the file is directly sent to the trash bin. I did not
try it on a folder.
I was about to delete some characters in the editor.
My bad. Overheat problem confirmed.
I think we can safely close this bug.
Thanks for the prompt response!

The VFat filesystem doesn't understand unix file permission so any try to

Apparently I spoke too soon.
This does not appear to be a specific gedit bug.
The same thing just happened while I was using nautilus and simply
clicked on a file's property menu. The file property window appeared
but all in transparent colors and soon afterwards the whole system
hung.
