It seems the culprit is that /usr/share/javazi is empty!
Unistalling tzdata and re-installing
marcelo@fenix:/tmp$ sudo apt-get remove tzdata-java
...
marcelo@fenix:/tmp$ sudo apt-get install tzdata-java openjdk-7-demo
openjdk-7-source openjdk-7-jdk openjdk-6-jdk openjdk-6-doc openjdk-6-demo

I also installed oracle-jdk7-installer from webupd8team and it also
works

I tried openjdk-6 and has the same problem. I downloaded jrockit and it
behaves. As the following transcript shows
