Title:
Unity: login-screen background freezes
I just realized the following:
I had desktop icons disabled (Unity Tweak Tool - System - Desktop
Icons - off). Once I enable desktop icons, the bug disappears (a
restart + login now shows the correct wallpaper). So the bug might not
be hardware related.
If this 'solves' the problem for you, too,
Let me add that this bug also disappears in my case if I choose to show
the desktop icons. So, indeed, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1115886 is the cause.

Just for the sake of completeness: Both
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1165256 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1173834 seem to be 'follow-up'
bugs of this one.

Given the importance/effects of this bug with respect to the bugs I
pointed out in #9, I would suggest that the importance of this bug is
raised.

I agree in that this bug is a duplicate of bug #1115886. But by marking
it as such, please be so fair and change the status of the latter. Bug
#1115886 has status 'invalid' which is definitely not true!
