Thanks, Gabriel. It's a much better solution. You can also lock the
version it in synaptic, so it doesn't update with the regular updates. I
think the driver should be reverted to the old version until this bug is
solved.

I tried upgrading to the new driver and issued:
$ rmmod b44
$ rmmod ssb
$ rmmod wl
$ modprobe wl
- No errors, but wl didn't work.
Then I removed the driver, installed the old one and issued the exact
command sequence as above. It worked.
My blacklist-bcm43.conf wasn't modified when upgrading
Daniel, the solution from #17 doesn't work either. I guess generating
new boot ramfs is just to make the changes permanent? I tried anyway and
no positive result.

Maybe it could be included in the final release?
Using one of the two options nouveau.uscript_lvds=0x0100 or
nouveau.uscript_lvds=0x0300 solves this problem.

The live CD image is supposed to work on USB sticks too. I've looked
into your syslog and I can say that my installation crashed just after
the nvidia warnings too.

I've just tried my luck, installing the RC by using
nouveau.fakeparam=yes. Obviously, the fresh ubuntu didn't work, but I
could collect the Xorg.log file. The logs before this were from the live
CD with the fakeparam thing.

actually it did not change a thing.

keyboard stopped responding (not even the caps lock key worked).
I'm sorry, I did some more testing and the keyboard worked. It switched
between terminals, but the display didn't show it. For instance,
ctrl+alt+f2, sudo reboot, enter, enter = reboots the system. I was
mislead by the fact that caps lock LED didn't work after switching with
