The problem was initially with FF 3.0 so I reinstalled FF 2 alongside. The bug was then perpetuated by a conflict between the two FF versions, and eventually came to affect FF 2. The bug finally disappeared when I removed FF 2, so must have been resolved in an update to FF 3. -- in some web sites
