Just figured out that the stock kernel (3.5.0-19 in my case) shows
exactly the same (wrong) behavior.
Also could verify this bug using fslint. Selecting a directory to find
duplicates other than own home directory only yields another
/home/markus entry.
This bug renders many applications useless
Public bug reported:
Linked this report to ubuntu in general, because I discovered this
behavior in at least two applications in gnome:

Open any libre office app. Go to options, paths, edit template paths.

Public bug reported:
Making use of tab stops in impress with right or center alignment does
not work. They all behave as left alignment tab stops. This seems to
affect impress and draw. In writer this feature works as expected. I am
on LibreOffice 3.6.0 from the ppa.
Thanks a bunch,
Markus

This version of Rhythmbox is very unstable compared to all previous
versions I have been using. It crashes when deleting a podcast, freezes
when playing music and drags entire system down, video podcasts do not
show any video but only play sound.

Not sure if this relates to this bug, but I figured that natty (kernel
2.6.38-9) starts filling swap space heavily. I have set
vm.swappiness=0... during work system keeps swap empty, after half an
hour away (system locked) I realize that swap consumes 600 MB, with 1.2
GB out of 8 GB RAM are used.
Checked mainline kernel 2.6.36, unfortunately it did not change the
situation...
