The problem has been solved for me too. I'm not sure, but I think the

Because of this and other problems I made a new fresh install on another

The old install had been upgraded more or less daily since breezy or dapper so
I guess it had a lot of cruft.

Yes, I have that problem too. It's always like that on first login. I
kept adjusting the font size, which sometimes suddenly became too small
instead. Silly me. Then I got it that it was simply something with the
desktop effects or just gtk-window-decorator.
Yes, it's annoying. :-)

Same here. Upgraded from edgy to feisty and the problem showed up.
Upgraded to cups to 1.2.11. Still problems. Upgraded whole machine to

In which version is this fixed? I'm using Gutsy and cupsys 1.2.11-2ubuntu1 and

This problem breaks gnome-settings-daemon(crashes), gnome-screensaver(can't
unlock), kate(file protocol dies => can't open files) and probably other things
as well. Things start working if permissions on /etc/libnss-ldap.conf is set to

gnome-settings-daemon starts if I set permissions on /etc/libnss-

Yes, it's annoying. I'm not sure, but I think it's gotten worse lately. Was
there an upgrade of libnss?
Well, I was able to tweak ldap timeouts by using hard to find settings in

nss_reconnect_sleeptime

$DAEMON --invalidate hosts
