I noticed some peculiar behavior recompiling old code that I had turned in for
a class. If you note the screen shots in the attached folders Take_Home_1 and
Take_Home_2, both programs compiled just fine with g++ 4.2 in Hardy, 32 bit.
(Both are first level subdirectories of Midterm_mStephens)
I am using the option "/media/cdrom0" to get my DVD's to play.

For whatever it is worth. When I installed Kaffeine under Gnome, I had
no such problem. Just as soon as I installed the Kubuntu Desktop, I

the problem.

Will try to read more carefully and use Apport outside of system crash.

Binary package hint: xorg
This bug report was to alert you that I have reproduced:
Bug #220143 "update manager crashed while updating from Gutsy to Heron"
I have attached every log and config file I could get my hands as
requested in that report. They are posted with that
In my first comment the attachment "Configuration logs from crashed

The logs came from the crashed partition. I may not have mad that clear.
They are prefixed "Before" and "After" for logs I knew to copy before
attempting the aborted upgrade.

update manager crashed while updating
This is from machine #1
The logs show a lot of broken dependencies dealing with X11.
I hope you find this helpful. Files are prefixed with Gutsy and Hardy,
as I copied many of them before and after the upgrade.

I just changed my root account password and got the same error today.
I might note that I had NO PROBLEM using "sudo apt-get update" then "sudo
apt-get install"
That worked fine and was done immediately after the problem was detected.
Since this is not a production machine, and I don't really
This may be useful when the Live CD hangs in some cases. Some users may
just be able to wait for it to load, or perhaps you are aware of a boot
