Julien, thank you for the answer. Unfortunately I can't provide
additional information about the bug. I've been using a new laptop for
one month in which I installed ubuntu 10.10 (64bit), and xpad works
fine.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 (upgraded yesterday).
I found a problem using xpad (installed version is 4.0-5ubuntu1).
Usually when I launched xpad, an icon on the notification area appeared.
Then I clicked on the icon using the right mouse button
