I have made a quick patch that gets this to work for me.
Some of this is not very clean and by far not the best way to do it, but
it seems to work fine as far as using Pithos.

The version I had had this line:

reports correctly, but ABR or VBR are both off.

Soundconverter creates
I'm still having the same issue in Ubuntu Maverick (had it since
Jaunty). I have it on all 4 of my Ubuntu machines (2 desktops and 2
laptops).
Sound always starts at 100% at boot. I have to manually turn it back
down to 20%.
This is very annoying as if I forget to turn it back down to 20% after I
