Patch 28-fix-omnibook-brightness-levels.patch: Omnibooks have 11
brightness levels, not 8. broke my hal, see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392022.
It is not true that omnibook have 11 brightness level and not 8, it can
be both.
Omnibook module, if compiled with kernel = 2.6.19
hove99,
can you please do a 'cat /proc/omnibook/lcd' and post the result here?
It seems that this fix, broke my hal! I believe we use the same module
(omnibook) but have different hardware.
Thanks,
Matteo

Omnibook module finally gave me the opportunity to control my lcd
brightness (toshiba satellite m40-281), otherwise it was impossible for
me. Now that hal supports omnibook module, gnome-power-manager is able
to control lcd brightness (Fn-keys obviously do not work).

Does the brightness slider work?
can you do a 'lshal | grep laptop_panel' and post the result?
Thanks

Latest patch by Stephen Hemminger on bugs.kernel.com solved the problem
for me, I'm using a custom 2.6.18.1 kernel on dapper.

Booting in single mode, if I use the xorg.conf attached and then
ctrl+alt+backspace, the screen is no more blank and I can use the
system! Maybe you need to change the default xorg.conf for my hardware
