Unfortunately, I stumbled on this same problem.
What I see is that all but two Kernel configuration items are the same across
multiple kernel versions. The two items that have changed are:
CONFIG_XEN_SELFBALLOONING=y (not sure why this has gone away)
CONFIG_XEN_TMEM=m

there are other .iso's websites i.e
http://nl.releases.ubuntu.com/precise/
The issue seems to be md5sum failure or sha256sum failure to match.

Attention Launchpad team:
Although the 10.04 liveUSB problems continues, I discovered that I created a
liveCD 11.10 on my old HP laptop as well. What I discovered is that when I
boot 11.10 on my new ASUS laptop It works fine. I get sound, and I get wireless
internet connectivity!

I am happy to report that your one line command helped solve the problem! I
also had to go into `~projectm/trunk/src and delete the CmakeCache.txt file! I
was "bug-eyed" when I saw a completed build! :)!
