I upgraded three machines and ran in the problem on just one.
boor-repair didn't work for me, but after a grub-install with the live-cd i got
to the grub shell and succeeded booting manually.
running grub-install again from within 14.04 fixed it eventually.
I learned a lot about grub, but lost aro

The following workaround works on my thinkpad:
echo on | sudo tee /sys/class/net/eth0/device/power/control
Btw: In my case the device gets disabled everytime i unplug the powerchord.
So i have to reeneable it, every time i unplug.
