renaming amdxmm.so to amdxmm.so.bck solved the problem. But, the "fix"
may be related to the fact that I get a kernel crash when I restart X.

The webcam works flawlessly in the configuration menu, but when I try to

I'm running big desktop with the virtual option, I confirm the bug. I
tried removing amdxmm.so, but it changed nothing. I also tried w/o big
desktop, and it still wouldn't work. I had to revert to the old driver
version using synaptic. I have the same bug with fglrx 8.12, installed
with the AMD/ATI
The bug also apeared to be fixed with this procedure :

Hang at logout
If you experience hangs when logging out (of X) it is probably due to
the /etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh script looking for X authorisation files
in the wrong place when it starts up. You can kill the hanging
authatieventsd.
