Same on me: Documents and Places not visible, System part empty. As
Mariano Stokle wrote I had to
Make a complete remove in synaptic of gnome-main-menu and libslab
Make a new install
Problem appeared after upgrade from 7.04 to 7.10.

Public bug reported:
I tried to compile renouveau in Feisty Beta. However I was getting
errors during link phase:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/nouveau/renouveau$ make
cc -g -Wall `sdl-config --cflags` re.o detection.o tests.o xvmc_tests.o main.o
NVCtrl.o objects.o ioctl.o regl.o nv20_vtxprog.o
debuild was a successes finally. I had problems with libxss: for some reason
debuild thought I had version from feisty. Strange... Anyway after
installing from packages.ubuntu.com a proper version build was OK.
Backtrace generated. Looks like recurrence problem in libgstreamer. Any more
help
I am also a Polish user and I am against this idea. IMHO this is
unnecessary dependency.

some more investigation I was able to reproduce this:
1. Go to sound preferences.
2. Make test on one VIA device

Video I have mentioned in bug report. This is duplicated from #69860.

I did some test and results are attached as video 8) More or less steps to
reproduce are:
1. Go to sound preferences.
2. Make test on one VIA device
3. Make test on other VIA device
4. Test on first device crashes sound preferences.
Tests with other devices result in hanging application.
