So it appears that it goes really really slow for a while and then finally
kicks in.
I think it might be a router incompatibility issue, because with a different
router (still wireless N+) it worked fine. The one that doesn't work is Belkin
N+ dual-channel... and the one that works is a newer L
And now, it is suddenly working just fine... No idea what changed. I
didn't restart, upgrade, modify anything. What happened?

Hi, I have this same issue on an ASUS U30J since yesterday.
I can't find any upgrades yesterday or the day before that are related in any

Yes, I did have static blur enabled. Once I disabled it dash started opening up
instantly when I push the button.
I still like the idea of a Dash Desktop though, then the super key could just
toggle compiz fade to desktop

I'm not sure, but some update recently may have fixed it. It hasn't happened
again accidentally, but I'll try to do it on purpose.
One other thing that may help, for me it only occurred after I had run killall5
in tty6 after a compiz crash.
killall5 logged out my session by killing gdm, then gdm
