This is so frustrating, same issue here, but on intrepid ibex.
Every single verison of ubuntu I've have tried (6.10 fordward) has this
bug... and some months later they fix it.. and in the new version the
bug remains.

Just to report, the problem still exists, what was the issue on my last
test, the rar files where being uncompressed to my NTFS hard disk (where
my Windows xp partition is located), but the issue came back, when the
uncompressing was performed on the same disk where the ubuntu partition
is located.
just to say thank you, the las Kernel update solved the issue, I've
tested uncompressing 4 rar archives (each one 4GB each) all at the same
time, meanwhile I was using firefox and Azuerus... amazing

I'm sorry right now I don't have too much time to actually try it.. but
by "just a little" I mean, that the Firefox and azureus windows get
unresponsive for about 10 to 15 seconds, then they response again but
slowly... also when a flash video is active in firefox at the time,
firefox closes itself
Hi, right now, with full updates, the system is working better, Firefox,
still hangs... but just a little, compared to what used to happen...
(running azureus and firefox, with two rar extraction windows processing
files)

I've switched back to xgl, but it didn't work for me, IT lasted something like
12 hours before de las freeze.
PLZ can anybody help us? it's a sham that the Radeon X300 card must be banned
when on feisty compiz work like a clock.

Same issue here, after the last fix, the systems freezes on Screen Saver
Activation, then after restart again stops randomly. ATI RADEON.
