I am not sure that my problem has been solved. Last week I googled some more
and found the following bug report which seemed related to the one I have filed.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/539772
I thus upgraded a few days ago according to:
I have had a few crashes since last post. This time I succeeded to
record the debug print outs from the modem-manager. Since I have not had
any crashes when running with the WLAN, I thought it could be
interesting to see if the 3G connection could be the problem. Below is
the log.
**
This evening, a new crash occurred. This time I was running with a WLAN
connection. The laptop has been running fine for a few hours with
Evolution, Firefox and Rhytmbox playing some music. As soon as I started
surfing on the web site idg.se, which seem to have triggered all the
previous crashes,
Status update: Was working for a few hours yesterday evening (WLAN
connection) and today (3G connection) without any crash. I have been
using Firefox and visited the web site idg.se on which I have been
surfing when I have got the previous crashes. So far so good.

Ubuntu crashes and
These two options are still deselected. It seems that the crash only
occurs when I am using Firefox at a certain web site (idg.se). Yesterday
I was able to reproduce the problem quickly, several times when I was
surfing on this web site. Do not know if it could be that this web site
is stressing
Yes, there should be enough memory (1 Gbyte) and swap (1,3 Gbyte).
Right now the memory usage is around 560 Mbyte and swap usage is around
15 Mbyte.
It is probably not Firefox itself, as you are saying, but some resources
it is using, which get stressed. Are you using a 3G connection as well?

Status update: I was surfing a while ago on the web site idg.se for
about fifteen minutes without any problems. Yesterday, the system
crashed sometimes after less than a minute. This happened about four
times in a row as soon as I was surfing the mentioned web site. Anyhow,
the system seems stable
Just got a new crash. Below is an excerpt from the syslog. Any ideas how
I can find more information that can be relevant to locate the problem?

Since the first row in the syslog implied a problem with the screensaver (see
below row), I made a test.

Do not have a clue if these print outs from the syslog are valuable:

I accidentally added this bug report to the firefox package. It is
probably related to something in Gnome. Can anyone move it to a more
appropriate package?
