Just updated to 5.11.0-38-generic on my ProBook 450 G6 with an i7-8565U
processor and both displays are back to working again. On 20.04 focal.
5.11.0-37-generic did not work, so it was something that was part of the
-38 update that fixed the issue for me.

Just to add a little more information, I have the same issue with a HP
ProBook 450 G6 with an i7-8565U processor. I am running 20.04 and have
had to stick with the 5.8.0-55-generic kernel because anything newer
(e.g. 5.8.0-59-generic) causes this bug to rear its ugly head. I can

directory domain controller. I don't have access to a trusty install,
so I won't be

Samba won't start when an include statement
With the latest version (4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.13) I still get
failures when I try to startup samba with an include that contains %U.
I think the difference is that I'm using samba as an AD DC. So the
service is started with systemctl (re)start samba-ad-dc instead of the
smbd and nmbd
I can confirm the workaround by Curtis works for me in 16.04.

I wish some effort were put into fixing this bug, but if that isn't the

that it isn't an issue. This could be a nvidia bug, it most definitely

I don't have Beryl either, so that isn't it. Most of the time, I can

As has been mentioned previously many times in this thread this is not a
Compiz problem. It is most definitely a xorg problem as it occurs on
Kubuntu with neither Compiz or Metacity installed.

Nothing. I realise that GDM is supposed to send you to a tty console.

I came from Red Hat and variants in which runlevel 3 doesn't start X
