Following a regular system update a few days ago (Ubuntu 10.10 with
Unity), I am no longer seeing the error messages when my HP mini 110
boots. I have no idea which particular package update was responsible.

In Terminal enter:
sudo -s
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y >>/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
update-initramfs -u
Makes no difference for me on a HP mini 110 running ubuntu 10.10 with
unity.
Pity - I'd be happy with a solution that simply hid it.
