What I think Mark is saying is that this does not work well inside the
quicklist, and I agree with that. But that doesn mean that you can't
have your cake and eat it too.
All that is needed would be a small tool to manage/edit/create .desktop
files in ~/.local/share/applications with a nice GUI.

applications-daemon does not display anything when you run it is good
info - but also *very* surprising. That executable should print quite a
lot no matter what status it ends up in. But nonetheless, this is a clue
to start on.

Many have pointed out the redundancy of the Most Used apps with the
launcher. What I find from my own usage patterns is that there are some
apps that I uses maybe 5 times every 2 months, but these 5 times falls

Oh! I also just remembered why we disabled back in ye olden days...It
was because the intel i915 driver ran out of texture memory when showing
1000 icons. Don't know if this is fixed (or even fixable?) :-/

On my Eee 1001 netbook the prospects of getting this running at an
acceptable rate are grim I am afraid... In Unity2d going from showing
all available apps to showing all available games takes maybe 30s. It
takes maybe 10s in Unity3d so also quite bad there...

I can not confirm this - is there some concrete example?
The way I am testing this is setting 5 stars and searching for 't' in
whatever category, when setting it to 4 stars and verifying that all
results from the 5-star search are still there. This seems to always
work, am I missing something?

The attached branch fixes this. I tested this with FTP and SSH shares.
FTP works well, but it seems that SSH mounts doesn't play nicely except
for the very first (auto) mount. If you eject an SSH mount it's having
trouble auto-remounting. This may only be for me though, because ~mhr3
reports it
This is a bug in the files and apps lenses. They use a
RadioOptionFilter, that doesn't allow for multiple selections. This
behavior was carried over from Natty, and punted from Oneiric because we
were busy revamping the lenses infrastructure.

There is no reason that bzr-notify needs to be started right from the
login screen. It should work just as well if started with a 30s delay
into the session.
Adding the statement X-GNOME-Autostart-Delay=30 to /etc/xdg/autostart
/bzr-notify.desktop should do that.
