I believe I have solved my problem! After some research, I made the
following change:
--> Preferences --> Default Applications for LXSession --> Autostart
CHECKED the box for PolicyKit Authentication Agent
Closed and rebooted.
Now the software updater runs perfectly! Something app

(which I assume is happening since I am sent here) and/or closes. This
happens daily, and no updates are installed.

freezes and will not respond at all. No cursor movement and both
buttons have no effect. Seems most likely to happen during/after typing

I installed rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010.tar.gz on a Lenovo W500
with a RealTek8192se (as reported by Win7), running Fedora 12 (sorry
not Ubuntu). It worked flawlessly with no modification, and
integrates fine with (Gnome?) Network Manager.

Just had this problem with a new Abit mobo and SATA drive. Install went
fine (using Gutsy DVD), but reboot hung as described. Going into the
BIOS and changing the SATA controller mode from "IDE" to "AHCI" solved

In my experience the only way to have gnome-terminal achieve true
transparency is to have compiz or beryl working.
