I don't use Linux any more, sorry.

This is **still** not fixed with 7.04 final...
Just did a clean install and now the workaround using gconftool-2 does
not work either...

Sorry this bug is NOT fixed, just downloaded all the Feisty updates
again (15 April) and changing the button layout in gconf-editor is STILL
ignored.
I can only change using gconftool-2, the gconf-editor setting is saved
when I go back in, but does not affect anything.

With latest updates to Feisty the window top is back and compiz is
working correctly now.

Good point, I forgot the actualy reported bug.
I need to see if gconf-editor Apps Metacity General button_layout
this setting is still being ignored.
Will check later and post back here, I forgot I changed with
gconftool-2.

Metacity button_layout ignored
Someone in the feisty forum said their issue was fixed by enabling SSID
broadcast on their router.
I just tried this and I connected first time, maybe this narrows the
problem down?
I am certainly not leaving the SSID broadcast enabled on my router.
My router is Netgear DG834GT for reference.
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: metacity
This was working in Edgy Eft, and earlier herds of Fiesty.
If you change the button layout setting in gconf-editor Apps Metacity
General button_layout this setting is ignored.
I filed a bug regarding compiz ignoring this setting (#89488),
$ gconftool-2 -g /apps/metacity/general/button_layout
menu:minimize,maximize,close
Interesting as gconf-editor Apps Metacity General button_layout shows
close,maximize,minimize:menu

BTW setting using the command gconftool-2 works
gconftool-2 -s /apps/metacity/general/button_layout -t String
close,maximize,minimize:menu
So the gconfeditor setting is being ignored.

Extra info...
I just tested the Compiz fix that is supposed to use these settings,
since changing with gconftool-2 there are no window top icons at all
with compiz running.

This could be related to my other bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/102787
This is where the gconf-editor setting for the button layout in now
ignored, I have set manually using gconftool-2 this is when the window
tops disappeared.

I agree, that was my first thought.
Can we pass it to the relevant person.
Thanks.

Centrino wireless networking does not connect
Just checked it's the ipw220bg, does that make a difference?
I assume the command above is what installs the resticted packages? Just
about to try.

Centrino wireless networking does not connect
Sorry for the typo, it should be ipw2200bg as I am sure you saw in the
lspci output.
Anyway I have installed the restricted packages and I still cannot
connect, as before the two gray connecting dots do not even turn green
at all when I try and connect.

Odd, will do some more investigating.

All looks to be going well in this log, all the wpa_supplicant parts
seem OK, but this last part is where it fails:
ubuntu NetworkManager: information^IActivation (eth0/wireless): association
took too long
ubuntu NetworkManager: information^IActivation (eth0):(60s), failing
activation

Done some more testing, think this issue is with wpa_supplicant
I can connect to non secure and WEP networks, as long as they are not
the same SSID as a failed WPA connection.
Sometimes a WPA connection will work if you change the security of a WEP
to WPA and re-connect.
Will never connect on
Could this be the new networking manager introduced in herd 3?
Herd 5 is the first test I have done with Fiesty.
I will try and check out how to manually set a network connection in the
next couple of days and see if I can connect that way.
