[HDA-Intel - HDA ATI SB, playback] No sound at all

When Ubuntu starts sound is muted. After clicking on speaker icon I can
then unmute the sound. I also have KDE installed on this machine. This
does not happen when I run KDE.

My computer stopped booting after this. I had to use a Live CD and then
in a terminal run "sudo apt-get update, the sudo apt-get upgrade" this
appears to have fixed this.

I was running VMware Server with Ubuntu 6.10. I upgraded to 7.04,
(Fiesty). VMware server no longer works. I have tried to run the
vmware-config.pl file to reconfigure VMware Server, but I contiunally
get errors. It occurs when it's attempting to access the kernel during
the configuration proce
It happens with Feisty. I haven't had this many problems with VMware
since I ran Fedora. I tried the any-any-update109 patch and that didn't
help either
