I don't know whether this helps, but it seems to be a problem with the 7.10 remote login. I set up 2 machines, 1 Feisty, and one Gutsy. The fiesty machine can login to Gutsy and Feisty systems, but the Gutsy machine cannot connect to any remote systems with XDMCP. This happens with Ubuntu and X
