I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 (installed within Windows XP) on an Asus Eee PC 1000 (10/30mb SSD, 1mb RAM). Opening Update Manager showed 301 updates available (278mb) and when proceeding gave exactly the above error messages. Having consulted Keir Thomas' Pocket Guide Reference (I am a
