This solution works for me:
System Settings->Advanced->Service Manager and turning off "Detecting
RANDR (monitor) changes"
On KDE4 it's in the settings window.
I turn it off the service and the screen see correctly.

I am not sure. But i suspect KDE-3.5.8 upgrade on 7.04. I've done it
right before 7.10 release. But in any case i've never install xserver-
xgl explicitly. Also it's not default for Gutsy, because it's not listed
as a dependency.

I have the same problem. On my Dell Inspiron 1300. VIdeo Intel I915GM

The most strange thing is that on my Intel 915GM the direct rendering is
disabled if i am using xserver-xgl,
but with out it's back to normal again:

direct rendering: No (If you want to find out why, try setting

Yup. This is the default.

I can confirm that i don't see any .xsession-errors, but removable usb

about exactly removable devices, because my fixed ntfs-3g HDD partition
works? I want to try to build policykit manually and see if it fix my
problem.

But you forget about non gnome users. We don't have gnome-mount here. I

At least you can include it into distribution and disable it by default

Public bug reported:

Please include PolicyKit into Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10.
If you try to automount ntfs-3g usb storage devices with hal you'll get this
message in .xsession-errors:
kded: ERROR: mount failed for
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_2EE506BF00093
The error is not in hal. The problem is that there is no policykit in
kubuntu/ubuntu distributions. Try to watch you .xsession-errors while plug in
ntfs-3g device and you'll see something like this:
kded: ERROR: mount failed for
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_2EE506BF000932C2:
org.fre
But you can't automount ntfs-3g with hal. We need policykit from
freedesktop.org to fix this. Do you know if team going to include it
into 7.10?
