This is probably a dupe of bug #497299. In order to test it the
runlevel has to be cheked, and if the runlevel is undefined, the file
/etc/network/interfaces should be checked, if it contais the lines:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
The ceation of this file has solved the issue at my system.

DVB Support doesn't work any more in karmic. One window is opened,
indicating that the dvb-channels.conf file is missing, but it is still
there. Additionally the message in the window is misleading, because
there is an link mentioned, which is not available.

The attaches screenshot is showing the problem. After activating compiz
the wallpaper went black. The icons on the desktop are not shown, but
they are still there and reacting on mouse clicks.

The crash ocures durint testing a new resulution. I have tried
[EMAIL PROTECTED] but displayed was [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is the resolution
of gdm as well. My screen is an IIyama S702gt and the card an ATI
Radeon 9200.
