Ah, I must have somehow gotten into the wrong repo, there were only
three packages in there.
Now I can confirm that this bug is fixed for me on Intel i5 2500k, HD
3000, intel_drv.so 2.20.9, Ubuntu 12.10+Kubuntu backports PPA

Compiz crashes on my system when it is, so I get no unity when it is
installed, and slow to the point of unusable unity when I remove it.

identify a responsible executable as far as I can see. It is an entire
ENVIRONMENT- tightly integrated into the OS, similar to Unity. The Software
