My issue wasn't fixed until I restarted gnome-settings-daemon.
Here's what I did, it works 100% of the time, but its a total hack.
Go in synaptic, reinstall nautilus.
I made a one liner shell script that runs when my computer starts:
sleep 5; ps -aef | grep gnome-settings-daemon | grep -v grep

When you look at the code, specifically the virtual and child method,
there is clearly a logic issue. That is my fault. However, users

Thanks!

I installed the patch and rebooted. I removed my working around of
running gnome-panel and gnome-wm on boot and sadly, in netbook mode, no
panels. This patch might fix in classic mode, however my netbook mode
still seems to be broken.

Confirmed the fix! Thanks a lot. Is there any negative affects that go

I was using 173.xx and saw the same issue while running Ibex.
There are similar drawing issues that appear in the terminal while using VIM
as well. This leads me to believe its not an issue with OpenOffice
directly.
