I think fixed using
`sudo update-alternatives --config python`
to select Python 2 (my default is python 3.5)

I have managed to move onto a stock Intrepid kernel from the kernel
mentioned in this report.
I still have the GRUB menu entry and it broadly works, so I could pursue
this report if necessary.
However, given that AFAICT the stock ubuntu 8.10 kernel is working as

Hi: apport was disabled by default as documented, but following the

to have worked.
