I have now downloaded and installed kernel 4.3.0 as requested and this
seems to have fixed the problem.
I have added the corresponding tags but I'm not sure about the
"spelling" of the version numbers. Another example in the standard text
would be helpful (there was no match on the pattern "X.Y-rc

I tried verbosity level 1 (was 3 because of a tracker bug a year or so ago) and

But, still, after reboot I have the same violently growing .xsession-
errors (it is already at around 1Gb after writing this entry:-
Same problem here after upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10. Deleting .xsession-
errors stops the problem for a while but after reboot it is back and
growing at the speed the system can bear.

After removing the 1-package update

I updated the whole tracker familj (I think)

# to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ChrisCoulson.list

This log was with the standard jaunty version - I didn't read properly

After having used the laptop with a projector, next boot gave me a much
larger screen than the LCD and any try to start the resolution switcher
cases a crash. System, Settings, Screen resolution worked so now it is
