I got the same thing. After killing off the window using the panel kill
an unresponsive application applet, I ran an update in the terminal,
and ldconfig appeared to complete successfully.

Ah, it looks like this bug (if it is one, which I guess it probably
isn't) would actually be in the Gnome system defaults, as I've just
changed the shortcuts set up in Gnome from the defaults (0xa2 for play,
0xa4 for stop, 0x90 for prev, 0x99 for next) to the various XF86Audio*

What's supposed to happen is that it's supposed to display a high-score
