Turns out it was the upgrade to libc6 that caused the havoc. Workaround: echo libc-bin hold | sudo dpkg --set-selections Stillwould be nice to upgrade everything without having to worry about if it's going to mess the source code OpenGL uses. ** Also affects: eglibc (Ubuntu) Importance:

Forgot to say that it completely crashes the computer, not only the xserver. None of the console windows (Ctrl+Alt+number) work, and the computer has absolutely no response. I had to turn it off the hard way (pressing the on/off key for 2 -- i guess -- seconds) -- xserver crashes after running
