This isn't fixed on ubuntu 13.10 either. I have tried other distros and
none seems to recognize this touchpad or configure it correctly.

In Ubuntu 11.10 I can change the brightness level but every reboot it started
always on maximum level.
Now in Ubuntu 12.04 I can't change the brightness level (the meter goes up and
down but the actual screen brightness don't change) but the system starts at
the brightness level I left on
Still not working.
I can set the brightness level with brightness keys and in System Setting
Brightness and Lock but the actual brightness level does not change - Ubuntu
12.04 LTS with all the latest updates

I'm not using Ubuntu right now. It really was a strange problem and I
didn't get to discover what was causing it.
I do remember, however, that a new install didn't have the problem. It
was somehow caused by doing the upgrade.
I'me planning to try the latest version sometime soon.

Since the LTS upgrade gnome lost the ability to store the correct keyboard
settings although they look ok in the Keyboard Preferences window.
Everytime I log in I have to go to keyboard preferences and click on Keyboard
