For Xubuntu, there are two possibilities that I can think of. First try the menu ApplicationsSettingsAutostarted Applications. That might have the evince program, which you can remove. You should also have the menu ApplicationsSettingsSessions and StartupAdvanced (Tab). I don't use XFCE, but
