Found the same issue with my HP Proliant ML150 G6 server. Thanks to
Chris Ball's workaround as described in #22 I've past the point where
the error occurred.

I can confirm this bug. I'm also using Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome 3.10.4.
Also when I put my laptop in the docking station this behaviour happens
(but I guess that in this case a Gnome-shell restart is also initiated).
