I am having a similar problem. I have freenode set to auto connect. If I
close that connection and attempt to connect to irc.ubuntu.com, I get an
immediate segfault. attached is the report I found in /var/crash/

Ok, hopefully there will be a fix. I don't know if it is of any help, but the
.deb package supplied here:

compiled code, and works without error on 7.04

not gtk, and the interface is less than friendly.
