getting white and purple blocks on top of some texts

Everytime I start Ubuntu, I get gren blocks all of the home screen,
which is solved by changing the wallpaper. But I also get white & purple
blocks over texts like my wifi name, "Night Light On" and Time on the
top bar (see attached photo). This is not solved.

After upgrading to 19.10, files crashes when I try to move some items to
trash.
Then I opened nautilus with 'sudo nautilus' in the terminal and there I
was able to delete items, but when I go to the trash folder, it says
'This location could not be displayed.
