*on 20.04*, after upgrading from 18.04
this *problem re-surfaced* for me recently
cause & solution:
* there was a snap package installed, `gtk-themes-common` (I think)
* it clashed with the system installed gtk-theme Yaru
* removal of the snap solved my problems

switching AccelMethod
in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
from "uxa" (which was necessary some time ago to fix an earlier bug)
back to the default

#29 finally worked for me on debian LXDE
had a tried a fix before that used 'udisks' instead of 'udisks2' as well
as some probably old action names.

very reliably and rather quickly reproduces the bug of complete freeze.
regrettable... and annoying.
