And besides, it is perfectly normal for VLC to try (and fail) to open a
directory as a DVD... since a DVD is a directory. It always does that
and always has.

Playing an encrypted DVD without decryption library is not possible.
This is not a regression.
And bug 998729 is not supposed to be fixed by 2.0.3 update anyway.

Without stacktrace and very incomplete logs, I can only guess what happens:
GNOME does not tell VLC to open a FTP URL, but a regular file. The file is
actually inside a FUSE mount point with a GVFS backend. Then somehow, reading
the file blocks. Since reading from a regular file is a non-blocking
Nevermind. I mistook logs from another bug to this one. Still waiting
for logs.

This is a known PulseAudio bug. For some unknown reasons, PA sometimes
triggers the VLC stream about 2 seconds later than requested. According
to reports, this disappears with tsched=0 (I never reproduced the bug
myself).

What's the picture chroma? The code seems to assume triplanar YUV 4:2:0.
I wouldn't be surprised if it crashes due to a chroma mismatch.
