After a fresh installation of both 10.04, 10.10 server LTS , the system startup
correctly upto grub.
Than I see a cursor in the upper left position and, after some seconds, the
hdmi output stops working.
If I enter in rescue mode, and try these modifications

Sorry, but, if I remember well, I have installed python-pydot from a not
official .deb package.
Now I'm trying to recover the apt-get manager.
After Update Manager update I obtain this messages.
E: python-pydot: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status
1

So I can use all ubuntu in Dingbats except for application font.

the font change to Dingbats was manual, not automatic.
